About Salty Life 1770
Salty Life 1770 was born from a love of 1770, the ocean and the lifestyle that comes with it.
Our connection to this special part of the Queensland coast goes back generations. Rich’s family has been holidaying in 1770 since the late 1940s, with his grandfather visiting the area regularly as a child in the 1940s and 50s, followed by his dad and uncles throughout the 60s and 70s.
So, in many ways, 1770 has always felt a little like home.
After spending three years travelling around Australia in a caravan with their two boys, Jack and Cain, Rich and Nicky eventually decided it was time to put down some roots again. They first called into 1770 in 2012 and, after falling in love with the place and the lifestyle, returned in 2014 to make it home.
Twelve years later, we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
We love the ocean, boats, fishing, surfing and being outdoors. But more than anything, we love the relaxed coastal lifestyle that 1770 offers. It’s a place where life slows down, people enjoy the water and there is always another little corner to explore.
For the first six years, we operated our tourism and transport business, 1770 Shuttle and Tours, in the local area. We love meeting people, showing them around and helping them make the most of their time here.
Rich also brings a long background in the maritime industry, working with and operating all types of vessels, from barges through to glass-bottom tour boats.
Salty Life 1770 grew naturally from all of that experience.
We’ve always believed that holidays should be about having fun, enjoying yourself and making your own memories. We noticed that people were looking for something different — an experience where they could get out on the water, have some freedom and choose how they wanted to spend their time.
So that’s what we created.
Salty Life 1770 is all about freedom, flexibility and enjoying the waterways at your own pace. Whether you want to cruise, explore, swim, fish, enjoy a BBQ with family and friends or simply find a quiet spot and take in the surroundings, you can create your own adventure.
We love boats.
We love the ocean.
We love 1770.
And we love sharing it with people.
Salty Life 1770 is an extension of what we’ve always done — entertain, look after people and help them have a really good time.
Come and live the Salty Life with us.
A family connection that goes back generations
Pictured: Rich’s grandfather, aged just 13, enjoying Main Beach at 1770 in 1947.
The house on the hill behind him belonged to his uncle — and remarkably, it is still standing there today.
This photograph is a pretty special reminder of just how far back our family’s connection to 1770 goes.
From family holidays in the 1940s, to arriving here ourselves in 2012, making 1770 home in 2014, and now sharing these waterways with visitors from all over Australia and around the world — 1770 has become much more than a holiday destination for our family. It’s home.
